Basis
The renovation of the Jože Pučnik Airport terminal, built in 1965. The building which was initially planned and build by the architect Ciril Oblak, requires renovation.
Concept design
The tectonics of the building in cross-section resembles a cross-sectional view of the clouds. The reinterpretation of clouds is created with a new facade element of expanded sheet metal. Transparency of this material grants the visibility of existing architecture. Facade elements that extend across the roof smudge and soften the edges of the building and blend its outline with the sky.
As for the interior, our aim was to recreate the impression of a flight through the clouds. Illuminants that sweep throughout entire space, symbolize the trail of the plane in the sky. Newly obtained image of the building accents the existing architecture, and distances itself from the original structure, thus offering a unique character, which is directly related to the activity.
The building becomes a Trademark of the company.
